Most golf games aim to reproduce faithfully famous courses and playing conditions. Super Swing Golf takes a more fantastical approach, with gaudy scenery and cartoon-style players. One look at the flying pig-faced bag that acts as your caddy and you realise it is all a far cry from the Tiger Woods series in terms of realism. You strike the ball either by swinging the Wii’s remote like a golf club (at an imaginary ball) or by pressing combinations of buttons. The former approach is more fun, albeit harder to master, and practice is necessary before attempting sophisticated shots such as the Tomahawk or the Cobra. In fact, the difference between success and failure in this game sometimes felt arbitrary. The single-player mode involved ponderous waits for the computer-controlled player to take its shots, and (despite the game’s child-friendly age rating) some of it felt decidedly adult. For instance, a buxom witch wearing skin-tight clothing materialises to act as a guide.
