Five stars The Co-Operative Truly Irresistible Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice, 1 litre, £2.35

This is everything you’d want in an orange juice. Sweet enough for a refreshing fruit flavour to burst through, there’s still a tingly tartness in the finish and the consistency isn’t at all wishy-washy.

Four stars Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice, 500ml, £1.45

You get a slightly bitter aftertaste from the pith, and the nicely fleshy fruit pulp lends a zip to the aroma that you’ll want first thing in the morning.

Three stars Waitrose Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice, 500ml, £1.59

Thick, pulpy and sharp, this is the closest thing to squeezing an orange into a glass. You’ll probably want a touch more smoothness and sweetness though.

Two stars Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice with Bits, 1 litre, £1.68

Smooth and syrupy, you get a sugary hit without an immediate sense of fruitiness.

One star Marks & Spencer Pure Florida Orange Juice with Juicy Bits, 1 litre, £2.19

Reminds me of the juice you get in hospital. The nose is sour, but it tastes so sweet that any natural orangey flavour just gets pushed to the back.

No stars Morrisons The Best Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice, 1 litre, £1.98

This really is disgusting. It smells bizarre and tastes completely unnatural; you’d honestly never guess it was from oranges.
