All-weather queue picnics have got to be tasty, easy to eat, low on packaging and uplifting. I suggest a mezze approach, making lots of little foil parcels.

How about bite-size smoked salmon sandwiches with lemon wedges to sharpen up the flavours; little burgers made from meatball mix stuffed into mini pita pockets with onion marmalade and a gherkin; parma ham wrapped around asparagus tips and a chunk of mozzarella; cocktail sticks with small boiled new potatoes, slices of chorizo and chunks of roasted red pepper; cocktail sausages with a smear of pesto and a twist of Parma ham, and cherry tomatoes?

Finish with chunks of cheddar with slivers of fresh pineapple. And for the interval with a glass of champagne, strawberries and Carluccio’s dark chocolate mini hazelnut and almond biscuit sandwiches.

Pack wet wipes and napkins, a rubbish bag and a pepper grinder. And to drink? How about Pimm’s in a can?
