TRACK OF THE DAY: The Age of Understatement
WHO: The Last Shadow Puppets
MEMBERS: Alex 'Arctic Monkey' Turner and Miles 'The Rascals' Kane
WHAT: The two frontmen met on tour last year and bonded over epic Sixties pop. They decamped to Northern France. Roped in Arctic Monkeys and Scissor Sister uber-producer James Ford to twiddle knobs and drum, Arcade Fire's Owen Pallett was brought in to orchestrate, the arrangements were then recorded by the London Metropolitan Orchestra.
THE HYPE: "More like noir-ish Sixties soundtrack music than the loose-limbed Brit-punk of the Arctic Monkeys. We were impressed" - The Rolling Stone.
WE SAY: A furious gallop of drums, guitars and strings from start to finish, this stands shoulder to shoulder with the widescreen drama of Scott Walker's Jackie. If the Broccolis are still looking for someone to do the James Bond theme tune, they need look no further.
IF YOU ONLY NEED TO KNOW ONE THING: They played their first ever gig this week in a record shop in Williamsburg, New York. You can watch it here.
WHEN CAN I GET MY HANDS ON IT: The single “The Age Of The Understatement” is released Tuesday, April 15th on Domino.
